Irony in the Oval Office

This is a quote from White House press secretary Tony Snow:

"What the president has said all along is that he wants to make sure that people who become American citizens have a command of the English language. It's as simple as that."

Huh?

Last I checked, President Bush doesn't even know how to speak proper English!

Let alone, have actual "command" of it...

Want proof?

That was hilarious. The other day on the news they showed a clip of Bush talking to some Olympic snowboarders or some such thing and he said, "Thank you dudes and dudeses."

Just remember: Fool me once, shame on...you...you can't get fooled again.

Although I hate to say it, I do agree that if you live here AND want to receive services here you should be able to speak English. If we get clients who don't speak English we have to pay an interpreter and sometimes that costs more than what we make for a session, so we're basically paying to have clients who haven't bothered to learn to speak English.

We have a Columbian woman who works with us and I had her come out to talk to these people who didn't speak English (I speak enough Spanish to deal with them but didn't feel like putting forth the effort) and she bitched at them and told them to learn English. It was funny.

I agree 100% with you that they should have to learn the language!

It would just be nice if Bush did the same ;-)

All these little runts need to understand is "Take out the trash!, mop the floor!, and fill this basket with tomatoes!." It would be good if we taught these three sentences to Bush also.
